David Davis continues to get flack for his principled stance on Civil Liberties. A labour front bencher Andy Burnham who tried to discredit him by implying however he had held "late-night, hand-wringing, heart-melting" phone calls with Civil rights campaigner Shami Chakrabarti soon had to eat humple pie when confronted by this feisty campaigner.

The BBC's Nick Robinson reported the corporation was "inundated" with praise for Davis - enough to cause a certain softening and even backtracking in later press comments about Davis. Prime Minister Brown, for example, seems to have acknowledged that Davis "certainly appears to have struck a chord".

The Guardian and other UK news channels reported David Davis claimed a "stunning victory" in his campaign to defend civil liberties after he was re-elected to parliament this morning and vowed to continue his campaign from the backbenches. read more on..

Today I found another advocate of removal of innocent citizens' DNA from the National Crime data base in Jennifer Willott (Shadow Minister, Home Affairs; Cardiff Central, Liberal Democrat)
